Guide to Enhypen

If you don't already stan Enhypen, you may wonder why this group got so big. They’ve only been making music for three years, yet they’ve already toured twice around the world. They’ve won numerous awards as well, such as the Rookie of the Year award from the Seoul Music Awards in 2021.

Enhypen have a strong international fanbase and I am saying this because:

  1. They were once leading in the WWFC Top 10 on MAMA (surpassing BTS)

  2. They get lots of  interaction on Twitter/X (almost 400k-500k likes per post)

  3. Most 4th gen K-pop stans keep up with this group

So, what made them gain fans? Why are they becoming popular? Is it because of their visuals? Their songs/performances? Their personalities? Their group chemistry? Because they came from a survival show? Or a bit of everything?

  1. They have a dedicated fandom, known as Engenes, and it’s growing fast. Engenes recommend the group to other fans, and they vote a lot to help the group win awards.

  2. They have a solid discography with lots of Spotify streams

  3. Fans find each member to be charming in their own ways. They all have different personalities and appearances, making them stand out more.

  4. They are a group under Hybe, which is well known and successful - well, self-explanatory

  5. They were formed off a survival show - a large portion of the fandom started watching them through I-land.

  6. The members pay attention to their fans. They post a lot on Twitter/X and Weverse.

  7. People have a lot of time in their hands during the Covid pandemic, which is around the time Enhypen debuted, so people consumed lots of their content and thus felt connected to the group.

It’s these explanations combined that seem to explain the rising in popularity of Enhypen, especially in comparison to groups who debuted at the same time with them.

Now that you understand the hype, here are some well known comebacks by them that you can check out:

  • Given-Taken

Enhypen debuted with this song. It’s whimsical, a little eerie, and it marks the start of their teenage “vampire” storyline.

  • Drunk-Dazed

As their first comeback, this song kept Enhypen’s momentum going. It’s a party song with some spooky and gothic elements, since the boys are still vampires at this point in the story.

  • Pass the Mic

This song marks the first time Enhypen truly abandoned their vampire concept. The boys show up as regular people, singing a hype song and dancing powerfully. It’s still just as captivating as their other music.

  • Bite Me

Enhypen returned to their vampire concept, this time taking on princely appearances while dancing with intense ballroom-inspired dance moves.

Through their title tracks, and perhaps more importantly, their b-sides, Enhypen have taken on many sounds. From energetic drill beats, to emotionally-charged trap, to ballads, they offer it all. You might decide to become a fan because of their music. Or maybe because of the boys charming personalities.

Get to know each member through a basic introduction here:

  • Jungwon: the leader. He’s very skilled in taekwondo, he likes to talk to Engenes, and he’s very well-spoken and responsible.

  • Heeseung: he’s the oldest and a talented vocalist. He has perfect pitch, and is known for his charisma.

  • Jay: is into fashion and cooking when he’s not busy being a singer. He can speak English, Korean, and is learning French as well.

  • Jake: has lived in Australia and Korea. Like Jay, he also knows English and Korean. He is known for being very friendly, and he has a dog that he loves.

  • Sunghoon: Formerly an ice skater, Sunghoon is more reserved but nevertheless a talented singer and dancer. He likes to make dad jokes and take pictures with his film camera.

  • Sunoo: is very sweet and likes to do cute concepts. He also has a funny side that likes to roast his members and poke fun at them. He also has a bright personality.

  • Niki: is known for being the main dancer of the group. He was influenced by Michael Jackson when he was a kid. He’s into street fashion as well.
